🚨URGENT URGENT URGENT🚨
🚨FOSTER NEEDED ASAP🚨
This is Buddha. Several weeks ago, late at night, Buddha was a victim of a hit and run near his home in north Morgan Hill. A community member found him lying in the road and reached out for urgent help from us. AARF team member Val Wood rushed to the scene and found the dog in terrible condition. She knew he needed urgent medical care and rushed him to the emergency vet. It was clear then, that his entire backend had sustained significant damage. In spite of his body being very broken, his spirits were good and he was affectionate and grateful to his rescuers.
Buddha was microchipped but the information on it was not current. We reached out to the community for help locating his owner and they were reunited. The owner later posted that his dog had a broken leg but would be okay. Unfortunately, that was not the case though. Buddha was actually quite injured and needed extensive work done to his body.
Buddha was transferred to the County Shelter and they determined his left leg was too badly injured to be repaired and so it was amputated at the hip. They then turned their focus to the right hip and leg. The damage to that hip was severe but the doctor felt she could attempt a surgery to remove parts of the hip that allows for scar tissue to form, creating a functioning hip to support the leg. A plan was put in place and the owner agreed to care for his dog and provide him the rehabilitation he needed post-surgery. The hip surgery was performed but his owner did not come back for him. He instead surrendered him.
Buddha has been abandoned when he needed his owner the most. There’s no nicer way to say that. We understand that not everyone is capable of sacrificing for their pets at this level, but it breaks our hearts for Buddha. However, it does no good to dwell on that because now, Buddha doesn’t need our pity, he just needs our help. He cannot stay in the shelter as they do not have 24 hour care nor the staff to provide him the rehabilitation he needs to help his right leg be functional again. BUDDHA NEEDS A FOSTER! All Animal Rescue & Friends will sponsor this boy and give him a chance at life again, but we must have an appropriate foster willing to help this precious dog. This is critical and if we cannot secure a committed foster ASAP, Buddha’s life is at risk. We need someone willing to open their heart and home to save Buddha’s life now.
The first two weeks of his care will be mostly crate rest with short breaks in his wheelchair to go for potty breaks. Buddha loves these moments of freedom. Buddha can get around very well using his wheelchair but of course needs assistance getting in and out of it and being led to where he needs to go. After 2 weeks or so, he will be allowed to have longer times out of his crate and start to work on developing the use of his right leg again. The recovery period is approximately 6-8 weeks. Buddha deserves this chance to prove to everyone that he WILL walk again. Tri-pod dogs can live completely normal lives. We believe in Buddha and feel that with a loving caretaker, he can show us all just how strong and capable he truly is.
Buddha is a very sweet dog with a gentle disposition. He is pleasant with other dogs and cats that he shares space with in the cages all around him. He is so loving towards everyone that he comes in contact with and he craves love. He’s such a good dog and we really want him to have a chance to live and thrive. Can someone please, please, please, help us save Buddha??
If you think can help us help him, please contact us ASAP at email@example.com. Thank you!
